This section provides guidance for the proper management of soil resources in the National Park System. Mismanagement of this fundamental segment of a park ecosystem will have irreversible effects on all other components of the system, including vegetation and water quality. It is essential, therefore, to know and understand the properties of a park's soils so that management, when called for, will be appropriate.
