The Thompson Pond site contains sharply defined, well-developed ecosystems, from open pond to mountain cliffs, which illustrate great ecological diversity in a small area. The glacially-created pond, consisting of 75 acres of open water and a water depth of four feet, is fringed by cattail marshes, and reeds and water lilies in deeper water.
