Waccasassa Bay State Preserve provides an extensive, undisturbed example of the coastal ecosystems that occur in northern Florida with the unique addition of the mangrove community. The entire transi¬tion from mangrove to saltmarsh to brackish marsh to freshwater marsh to hardwood hammock forest is superbly demonstrated here.
