Informing the Public

The collaborative goals of EarthScope and the National Park Service (NPS) include emphasizing the integrated nature of the scientific discoveries and the importance of EarthScope’s various research initiatives through the contributions made to EarthScope via diverse groups of individuals and organizations, which include scientists, professionals, and educational communities. Science literacy and understanding of the EarthScope experiment among all audiences may take place through informal education venues, whereas inquiry-based classroom investigations that focus on understanding Earth and the interdisciplinary nature of the EarthScope experiment may play a role in formal Earth science education. The use of EarthScope data, discoveries, and new technology may also assist in resolving challenging problems and improving our quality of life.

The EarthScope website is striving to establish:

  • Internet portal, functioning as a “virtual resource center” that will include activities and resources for EON members-educators, K-12 teachers, scientists, and technical professionals.
  • Videoconferencing and distance learning.
  • Visualization technologies to display 3- and 4-dimensional data in electronic media and on virtual reality display devices.
  • Maps, media, models, animations, and simulations of 2- and/or 4-dimensional data.
