Mercury Contamination at Acadia National Park

This short video describes concerns about elevated levels of mercury across Acadia National Park’s landscape. Mercury is a toxic heavy metal that builds-up in organisms and magnifies in concentration with each level of the food chain. The major source of mercury in the park’s environment is deposition from the atmosphere—a result, in part, of emissions from industrial sources in midwestern states.
