Purpose
Park Science is a research and resource management bulletin of the U.S. National Park Service that reports the implications of recent and ongoing natural and social science and related cultural research for park planning, management, and policy. In particular, articles translate scientific findings into usable knowledge for park planning and the development of sound management practices for natural resources and visitor enjoyment.

Publisher
Park Science is published by the U.S. Department of the Interior, National Park Service (NPS), Natural Resource Program Center, Office of Education and Outreach. Funding is provided by the NPS Associate Director for Natural Resource Stewardship and Science through the Natural Resource Preservation Program (NRPP).

Frequency
Park Science (print: ISSN-0735-9462; online: ISSN-1090-9966) is published twice annually, in spring and fall; thematic issues are published occasionally. Current and back issues are available from the Park Science Web site at (http://www.nature.nps.gov/ParkScience).

Management
Park Science is managed by an editor who coordinates the day-to-day affairs of the publication, including planning, writing, editing, layout and design, printing, and circulation; an editorial board is responsible for general guidance and technical review of article submissions (see Editorial Board). Editorial support is provided through cooperative agreements with Colorado State University and Pennsylvania State University and by contractors.

Editorial Board
The editorial board consists of four to eight NPS employees with park management and research expertise, including natural and social scientists, policy experts, field resource managers, interpreters, and park superintendents. Members serve for three to five years on a staggered rotation. The editorial board assists the editor in content planning and review of articles (see Review).

Audience
The principal audience of Park Science is park managers of the U.S. National Park Service, such as resource managers, superintendents, researchers of natural and social science, interpreters, maintenance personnel, visitor and resource protection rangers, and other technical and nontechnical staff members. The secondary audience includes partners of the National Park Service, such as other federal agencies; state departments of fish and game, parks and recreation, and natural resources; international park service staffs; private conservation organizations; and the academic community. A tertiary audience is the interested public.

Content
Park Science reports research findings and their application to resource management solutions, practices, and policies in the National Park System. Articles must clearly demonstrate a link between research and its application to park management, particularly for natural resources and visitor enjoyment. For details, see Author Guidelines: Writing for Park Science and Editorial Style Guide for Park Science.

Review
The editor recommends authors seek initial review of their draft prior to submission to Park Science by an NPS supervisor who is knowledgeable in the pertinent subject area(s) (see Review and Acceptance in "Writing for Park Science: Author Guidelines"). Once an article is submitted for publication, the editorial board and other subject-matter experts review it for clarity, completeness, usefulness, scientific and technical soundness, and relevance to NPS policy and then make a recommendation for publication.

Contributors
Contributors are primarily park managers who apply science-based natural resource management techniques and federal and nonfederal scientists who conduct applied research on national parklands. However, the editor encourages pertinent article submissions from all readers. See Next Issue/Deadline in the current issue of Park Science and Author Guidelines: Writing for Park Science.
