Geologic Resources Inventory Publications
The Geologic Resources Division produces the following three publications as part of the NPS Geologic Resources Inventory Program: Scoping Summaries, Geologic Maps and Geologic Reports.
Scoping Summaries
Scoping summaries detail the results of scoping meetings and are the foundation for the geologic reports. Early scoping summaries focused primarily on geologic map issues.
PDFs of completed summaries are available below.

Geologic Maps
Geographic Information System (GIS) geologic data prepared as part of the GRI program can also be downloaded from the NPS Integrated Resource Management Applications Portal web site: https://irma.nps.gov/App/Reference/
Search?SearchType=Q. In order to retrieve geologic map data from the Portal, select the name of the park from a drag-and-drop list, and type "GRI" as the Search Text.
Geologic map data are available in ESRI personal geodatabase, coverage, and/or shapefile format. You will need appropriate GIS software in order to utilize these file types.
The Geologic Map Overview PDFs provide a poster-sized view of the geologic map data.
Geologic Reports
After the map is completed, geologic reports are prepared linking the geologic map to the park. Reports contain discussions of geology-related resource management issues, geologic features and processes, and include a brief geologic history of the park area. The reports also include a map unit properties table highlighting properties of each geologic unit on the map.
The View PDF is a lower-resolution file suitable for viewing online. It includes the body of the report, map unit properties table, and any geologic map overviews.
Print quality PDFs are also available as separate files. For a complete report, print the report body, map unit properties table, geologic map overview PDFs, and any park map PDFs.
Completed Products
Completed products are listed below, alphabetically by park. Blank spaces in the table indicate products that are not yet completed. Check back often for updates!
An * next to a park name indicates that park is not part of the Inventory and Monitoring Program. Separate scoping summaries and reports will not be produced for those parks, although they may be addressed in other park reports.
